Life Skills Training Centres (Canada) Ltd. originated in 1976. It is both a limited company and a school licensed by the Private Post Secondary Commission. Life Skills Training Centres (Canada) Ltd. is a member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau and the National Association of Career Colleges.

Life Skills Training Centre (Canada) Ltd. provides a range of Life Skills Training. Our Life Skills Coach Training programs are of the highest calibre, based on sound theories that have been repeatedly tested over time so that we can offer balanced and effective training. In essence, our programs focus on giving individuals the skills to help themselves and others develop their unique human potentials in the context of relationships with their families, friends, work situations, leisure time, and the broader community.

The concept of Life Skills originated in New York City. The program was developed in Canada in the 1960s and 70s by Saskatchewan New Start and later in Alberta through the Canadian Mental Health Association. At the request of CMHC, Madeleine Dunkley was trained by Saskatchewan New Start as a Life Skills Coach and later as a Life Skills Trainer. Returning to Alberta to work with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Madeleine developed an effective Life Skills program for individuals with psychiatric difficulties. As the program became increasingly successful, Madeleine was encouraged to form an independent company. Life Skills Training Centres (Canada) Ltd. was formed by Madeleine Dunkley with Vicki Jolin and Blair Dunkley. The clientele was expanded beyond those with mental health concerns and Life Skills Training Centres began to offer its program to any individuals who felt that they were no longer coping with their life situations.

This move to independent private school status was also encouraged by the Training Research and Development Station, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, which was formerly Saskatchewan New Start. Life Skills Training Centres Ltd., licensed under Private Vocational Schools Act, Department of Advanced Education became independent of C.M.H.A on March 1976. Personal, program objectives and program content remained the same.

Life Skills Centres (Canada) Ltd. is located in Edmonton, Alberta. Today, thousands of people have graduated form Life Skills Training Centres programs across Canada and from around the world. Our students have ranged in age from 16 to 65. Some have been illiterate. Others have held university degrees. They have come from a broad range of social, cultural, religious and racial backgrounds.
